[public]: The Gateway made its debut at the University of Alberta on 21 November 1910. The newspaper was founded when a group of students gathered at the home of Libby Lloyd to discuss the creation of a student newspaper. Albert Edward Ottewell was The Gateway's first editor-in-chief.
